FLASH TRAFFIC: Is Trump Calling for a First Strike Against Democracy?
Trump and Peter Navarro’s Civil War Threats Are Turning Into Marching Orders.
Peter Navarro Video quotes his OpEd for supporters to “Stop Democrats.”
A week after the January 6, 2021 insurrection I was invited to write an opinion editorial for the Washington Post, in which I espoused the belief that naming and shaming the supporters of the insurrection would convince them of their error in attacking the Constitution. For about two months this was a belief amongst the media and political elite in Washington DC. But the uneasiness that I had months before the election which led me to write the book They Want to Kill Americans: The Militia’s Terrorists and the Deranged Ideology of the Trump Insurgency would quickly manifest into a future insurgency well after January 6.
In my book I identified the most extremist followers collectively as The Trump Insurgency in the United States (TITUS). These are not only the basest supporters that participated in or support the attack. The TITUS are also the voters, supporters, and activists who have been radicalized by Trump and others to look forward to a possible Civil War. This could be as many as 70 million people. How could this happen?
As early as 2019 as the Republican Party leadership mollycoddled the Q-Anon conspiracists and used their energy and adoration of Donald Trump to push the 2020 campaign into overdrive. Many of those conspiracists came to the capital on January 6, expecting to see a bloody and violent military overthrow of the government in the mass arrest, incarceration, and execution of prominent Democrats that they called “The Storm”.
In the book I had projected that the violent Q-Anon conspiracy theory would take a year or more to consume the republican party after the insurrection. In reality, it took only six months. Today there is almost no daylight between Q-Anon conspiracy theorists and the Republicans. And they could not be shamed away from wanting Trump back in power, no matter how crazy they sounded.
When none of the expected arrests, deportations to Guantanamo Bay prison, or public hangings occurred their disappointment turned into anger. That rage from Trump’s Big Lie and the ever-present expectation that bloody revenge will be exacted against the 81 million Americans that voted for President Joe Biden. Three events this past week makes the story quite possibly far more dangerous than what I had written.
