The first American Revolution arguably began with the Boston Massacre in 1770. However, in reality, the event that ignited the rebellion was when King George III ordered the dissolution of the Massachusetts state assembly. The British loyalist governor would then have the power of the King to do whatever he wanted in the colony, and he authorized British troops to occupy Boston and the Massachusetts colony, with the costs borne by the local people.
These were part of The Intolerable Acts of 1774. This British overreach led to the establishment of the First Continental Congress and set the path for revolution.
