Mmm, I think wrong take. The US has voted for an end to DEI experiments, and ineffective foreign policy. It's true that Ukraine is a victim in the process (sadly), but let's not claim the Biden administration was much better with their red lines.
America was a DEI experiment right from the start. i guess you never heard of immigrants from italy, Ireland, England, Scotland, Western and East Europe that foght the British in a revolution in 1776? The great Syrian migration of the later 1800s? You just hate black & brown people and you especially hate women. you;re going to strip them of their own rights. Thats what this is about. a backlash by white men. Enjoy your dictatorship. It will eventually damage or hurt something you cherish ... like rights.
Or maybe, just maybe, you see DEI from a single side.
Both the Republicans and Democrats have introspection to do. But if you keep blaming the other side, and never look at your side too, then I think you're missing the point, and end up asking "how could this happen?".
You know in your heart there is no "Lets have quotas" system. That went out decades ago ... except for people who use the words DEI perjoratively. You seem to use it to insult minorities exisitence and presence and contributions. This nation was bulit on Diversity of religion & immigrants, inclusion of others into the commonwealth (remember the mayflower compact?) and Equality is LITERALLY in the first line of the Declaration of Independence!
Our country consists of indigenous Americans, descendants of former immigrants (or immigrants themselves) and descendants of slaves. Most of the undocumented people here are hard working people who can't apply for benefits even though many pay taxes and/or live on subsistence wages. More crime is committed by white supremacists than people who walked thousands of miles to come here for a better life. It is sad so many people in this country, who have so much, have so little heart. I feel like our country is Germany, circa 1935. Still can't get over Cruz in Texas but I rest my case.
America will sustain itself against the barrage of hatred MAGA represents. They are not ALL of the people, they're JUST 25% of the electorate that chose to vote!
Malcolm, some of us think the election was stolen. It has been said (without proof) that stealing an election is impossible, but in 2016, exits polls said Hillary won in 4 states that went to Trump. Now exit poll data (unadjusted) cannot be found. Election interference is routinely dismissed, but no one really seems to know about voting system vulnerabilities.
No. It was lost fair and square. White men and women no longer care about American or the Constitution ... except for them. Welcome to the Constitutional Dictatorship, where the in tribe gets rights and the others get ruled over.
Malcolm -- what do you think happened to the Women Vote? I thought they would rescue us -- the coalition of Black men and Hispanic men turning on Kamala --
for Trump? It's incomprehensible -- I mean I get that Latinos have a history of fascism -- but how do you account for Black men not supporting her? Misogyny?
Yes. Misogyny. It runs very, very deep in USA. Patriarchy is the oldest organizing principle in human history. And that includes patriarchal women. I never for an instant trusted white women to vote for Harris. I hope the whole lot of them devour each other. Just sayin'
250 years ago, i.e. around 1750, there was no industry, no communications, no automation, no medicine. Are you sure you want to make the claim it was better back then?
250 years ago the Americas had ample resources of gold and silver, foods and culinary techniques that were exported all over the world, agriculture practices that fed thriving Frist Nation communities, the Iroquois who provided the foundation for US democracy, quinine along with other plant based medicines, The Creek who provided revolutionary techniques; and all of this was evolving until it was destroyed by men colonizing their land. The same men that put forth another culture that is bit-by-bit destroying itself through fascism, terrorism and environmental destruction. Your antagonistic propensities are a distraction and deterrent to women's equality.
But, I want proof that it was fair and square! Then I will believe it. But for now I see too many data points out of whack. Proof for me would be that ability to count ballots by hand and compare to machine counts. Then I would believe the machines. Democracy benefits from a healthy dose of scepticism. Trust-based systems like the vote need to be put to the test, routinely.
I am a conservative white woman who has done all I can to prevent Trump and his dictatorship. I voted for Harris. I am terrified for our country, my children, my grandchildren.
Ok, wait a minute. I'm a WASP. I voted for Harris and Dems for every race they were in. I know a lot of other white people who did too. There are millions of us who didn't vote or support Trump or the Republicans.
I just can't believe that with all the celebrities, economists (even the WSJ economists), former Trump staffers and cabinet members (VP too) and knowledgeable academics (Tim Snyder, Ann Applebaum, Ruth Ben-Ghiat, etc) saying that Trump was not fit to be president and how bad his policies would be, that so many people voted for him.
The US education system sure needs a lot of work. The worst part is that the people who voted for Trump think education is bad.
So let me get this straight - people should vote according to what celebrities say? Singers and actors are the best judges of policy?
I think that's what was one of the mistakes of the Harris campaign in the last month or so. Singer after singer, compared to—for example—Musk. You might hate him, but he actually delivers.
I think you missed all the other people/professions that I mentioned. i.e. Academics, former cabinet and staff members (Kelly, Mathis, Esper, Pence, etc) and economists. Some people like celebrities. That's all that Trump is, a celebrity. He doesn't know jack about government, economics or foreign policy.
I didn't miss, but I found it interesting that you started with celebrities. My point is that people look at more than "how many people sided with which candidate". Do you really think that the Harris campaign was a good one? It didn't seem to me, so I'm not surprised she lost. The kind of endorsement that she got from celebrities seemed a net negative.
Some of us care a great deal Malcom and we’re crushed this morning. We realize we’re not free unless all are treated equally.
So many sick minded people found a haven in the Trump cult. But I think many others just weren’t paying attention and got grifted by the master and his allies. They fell for a massive misinformation campaign waged over the last 8 years and have completely succumbed to the gaslighting. Half the country is grieving today. And I’m betting that many more will join us over the coming years as they see the horrific mistake they’ve made by voting red or by sitting out the election. It’s soul crushing…
I am just so grateful for voices like yours that speak the hard truth, keep us on track showing us there is hope and a path towards the light.
I don't feel this is an accurate assessment. A lot of minorities, even the Muslims of Dearborn voted for Trump. Less white folks voted for Trump this year than in previous years. Minorities got him back in the White House, not white people. He has historic support among Black and Latino men. The Dem party is also bleeding Jewish voters who feel completely abandoned and taken for granted by the likes of Biden and Harris.
Chuck Schumer silently supported the campus intifada. Harris said Israel was committing genocide and not to go into Rafah. She also supported the campus intifada movement. Kamala Harris should have had popular PA governor Josh Shapiro on her ticket, not Tim Walz. But she didn't want to run with an overtly pro Israel Jew and that says a lot, none of it good. Jews were able to wear kippot and wave Israeli flags at Trump's events but had to meet in secret rooms at Dem run events.
Dems need to fix their party - run candidates like Ritchie and Fetterman.
I'm nervous about another Trump term for many reasons, notably Ukraine and women's rights. The Dem party needs to come up with something better than "GWB/Romey/Trump is Hitler!" to win subsequent elections.
CPD (the Clear & Present Danger or Crazy/criminal psychotic Dickhead) never stopped lying about the “stolen” 2020 election. These Trumpers were not going to have this one taken from them so they ALL showed up election day. We allowed a criminal who should have been rotting in a jail cell to spread this lie for 4 years. Instead of condemning those convicted of 1/6 crimes, he calls them political prisoners. Add social media, Fox, foreign disinformation, and the depravity of people like McConnell and other R’s in power and voila: Instead of an extremely capable, competent, caring steady hand who inspired so many (including me) who would have made history as the first woman President, we have a convicted felon who is going to be a foreign policy disaster (intelligence sharing?) Ukraine, Taiwan, N. Korea, Iran, holy shit. Then you have at least 2 R Justices who will probably retire, and rumors that one of the 3 on the court appointed by Dems may have serious health issues. We. Are. Fucked. Oh and don't get me started on the economy.
we had consistent 57% for Marijuana and Against the Abortion Ban, here in Florida, but they just didn't want a black woman in the WH, So Florida went to Donald.
Trump filed over 60 lawsuits which were deemed completely baseless. I've read Jack Smith's recent 165 page filing and the details of how he tried to steal the election 4 years ago (and the evidence came from Republicans and people who worked for him!!!) make his victory nothing less than a catastrophe for anyone not named Trump. Never mind his fraud, sexual assault, classified docs in his bathroom and the deaths of hundreds of thousands due to his inept handling of the pandemic. Enjoy King Donald.
Filing baseless lawsuits helped Trump to shore up the popular myth that nothing is amiss in our voting systems. Indeed, the system is full of holes. But to mention it is to be dismissed with disgust. Trump's strategy is like the Boy Who Cried Wolf, and then collaborated with the wolf !
I would say if someone with enough money and a tech savvy team was able to breach security in a few select counties of the swing states (that’s quite a lift) they might be able to change programing of the machines to favor a candidate. But because our elections are handled by states and the machines are not connected, it would have to be done multiple times; getting to the machines undetected would be the problem and I think there are usually safeguards in place. Also, usually there is a paper backup for votes. People sign in when they vote in person or they have returned a mail in ballot so if someone has evidence of wrongdoing, theoretically you would be able to back it up. But there has to some evidence first before the evidence is going to be reviewed to that extent. Once votes are cast, in the precinct that I observed in 2012, they were counted under the supervision of representatives of each party. Bottom line: There are holes, but it is not easy to do and would require more than just handful of people in the conspiracy and the more people, the more likely someone is going to get caught. So it’s possible, but you need evidence in order to get these hand recounts. I agree that Trump did have the dems talking for 4 years about how secure elections are so it would be in his playbook to cheat now, knowing the dems are probably not going to now claim that THIS election was stolen. Your point is valid. But there needs to be evidence.
Having worked the polls and watched the process first hand, I know that at the basic level the system is air tight and water proof tighter than a duck's ass. I don't know for bomb threats and Russian interference, or what impact hundreds of millions of dollars had on the outcome of our election but there was no ballot stuffing at Monroe County/Salt Creek One Precinct.
Malcolm, with tears in my eyes….I thank you for this post. I am a Navy veteran and I’m also old enough to remember the WWII generation as I was growing up. These people who voted for this darkness can’t grasp they are on the list too. Or at least the things they rely on, Social Security, Medicare are going to be shut down. It’s amazing to me that MAGA voters hate their neighbors so much, their co-workers, people they see every day of their lives and view me as an enemy. Astounding! But are happy to be Putins step stool. And you’re also correct, the dark heart of MAGA is racism. They do not want liberty and justice for all.
I am in total shock. My daughter, 14 of Trinidadian heritage along with my Polish heritage, is will be hunted, demeaned, and explored for being non white and a woman. I now have to worry about my parents in health in their 80s who likely will not be able to pay their bills as Medicare and Social Security will be looted. I had faith in the US experiment and thought people at their core were good and decent. None of that can be true if Trump indeed has been elected. I fear I will need to leave with my Spanish wife for exile for the safety of my family.
But fight we must. It will get ugly. It will get violent. This will end in civil war at some point. I will not be silenced. I will not go quietly. The shock and pain are too much for now.
I wasn't the most hard working student during law school but democracy is fragile and the SCOTUS we have has seriously endangered the rule of law in this country. Had Harris won and if she had a Democratic Senate , I believe there was a chance to pull back from the brink. But we lost both and Trump, by the end of the first 2 years in this new term, will likely have appointed 5 of the 9 Justices! There are rumors that one of the 2 appointed by Obama has serious health issues. If so, she should leave now so Biden can replace her because 6-3 is better than 7-2. Either way, watch for a personhood ruling (at the time of conception) Watch for rulings that rent control in your blue state deprive developers of property rights. That environmental and other regulations are unconstitutional. All sorts of ways things can get so much worse. And after all Biden and Harris have done to save us from the Covid fiasco. What if we have another pandemic? Oh, not to worry RFK and Musk will save us. It didn't have to be this way!
In gratitude for your precise words that truly saved my "psychological well-being" (and emotional too). Although the rally cry cannot heal my grieving heart it has strengthened me to "feel all those feeling...and get with the program". God Bless you Malcolm Nance, thank you.
Thank you for your thoughts, Senior Chief. I'm not certain yet if these election results are a condemnation of DEI/liberal policies. When running against liberal white men, the orange one loses. Twice now he has been victorious over women imminently more qualified than him in both experience and character. These election results point to what I suspect is our country's most obvious deficit..................women's equality. The majority of American men, immigrant or not, do not want a woman to be president. So much so, that they hide behind their religious leaders preaching and teaching women to be submissive, cover our heads and dare we not speak in a house of worship or politics. The long term way out of this one is for a few good men to raise up women. Thank you for being one of them.
Yes to all of this. Absolutely. But. But I’d feel much less - insert any number of emotions here - if it weren’t for Musk and Putin. This is them and Project 2025. Or whatever it’s called. And it isn’t trump. Hell, he can barely finish a sentence. They will give the orange idiot shiny objects to play with and some nice music while they dismantle our nation.
i'm trying to find out when he will close the borders to this country for letting us out. Because I need to get out I would like to wait for my old dog to die first, but if he's going to close the borders on January 20 I'll have to put my dog down and run. I will not stay. I am a student of history. I know what fascism means we have no hope none.
You are so kind and generous and you make me cry. Kindness makes me cry because I am old. And so very sad. I decided I could not leave him until he is ready to say goodbye. That time is closing in on me and it will break my heart. Hopefully if I decide I need to go, they will still let me out whenever that day comes. Just lost his sister two weeks ago. It has been a cascade of terrible for 3 weeks. And then last night. And then Chris Lavoix from the STEPHANIE MILLER SHOW told me to F off because I said they were flippant this morning. So that was Super Duper. they did not show any of that kind of animosity toward the Trumpers who called in, just me. And in the email I also begged them to leave because the GOP hates gay people. but he told me to F off and he's not running away or cowering in a corner. He has no idea what I've done for this country. My God. These are the people who are on OUR side? so much for the STEPHANIE MILLER SHOW. Malcolm had the right attitude, but Chris and Stephanie were all happy slappy. "Got to find the humor folks!" Omg.
I've lost a few dogs in my lifetime. It is hard. Mine normally sleep with me. I'm with them every day, most of the day since I'm mostly retired. I had to let one of my dogs go back on 8/21/2021. She was about 13.5 years old. Likely a Plott or Plott mix. I got her from the county animal shelter when she was about 9 months old. Somehow, she got a compound fracture in her back leg. At that age, all I could do was let her go. Then, on 4/15/2022, I had to put another dog down. He was 13 years, 2 months. I got him when he was an eight week old pup. A German Shorthaired Pointer. He had lost the feeling in his hind legs. He had a hard time walking and couldn't control when he pooped. I miss both of them so much. Luckily, I had another GSP. He is now 11 years old. I adopted a used female GSP dog (like a used car) from a breeder. She is just 11 months younger at 10 years old. It won't be long before they both age out. The hard part is knowing when it is time to let them go. I didn't want to keep them alive just to suffer. The Plott was easy - her leg was broken and she was too old to heal it.
i'm currently on steroids for a facial allergy that I got after I quit smoking weed and decided I deserved a treat (I ask people to listen to the New York Times daily podcast about cannabis used disorder) so I got my eyebrows waxed. Then I cracked a rib. And then Trump won. So I will wait to decide things until I'm off the prednisone in three more days. But I don't like going back on my word. And Merida Mexico seems a lot safer than anywhere else in this country. I really appreciate your work, Malcolm. Thank you so much.
S Chief Nance. Is there a way to privately message you? I've followed your twitter for a while and wanted to ask your opinion on something given the current events. Best

Hate people? I don't hate people. I mean DEI in the sense of "let's have quotas" versus meritocracy. That's all.

Sure. I am an idiot, when I say that it's not simply R=evil and D=good. But sure, keep living in your bubble. Seems to do wonders.
America will sustain itself against the barrage of hatred MAGA represents. They are not ALL of the people, they're JUST 25% of the electorate that chose to vote!
Not quite what anyone is saying but you.

feel safe? der Fatherland???
So, just to clarify - Women should have voted for Harris just because she's a woman? Or if not, why single out women?
Maybe, just maybe, the actual policies mattered more than the sex of the candidate?
When you get a uterus you'll understand why. Even I know that.
Please explain to me why one should vote because of race or sex, and not the policies of the candidate.
Actually, its men who should have voted for VP Harris because she is a woman. The 250 year track record of men ruling was a huge clue.
250 years ago, i.e. around 1750, there was no industry, no communications, no automation, no medicine. Are you sure you want to make the claim it was better back then?

Thank you, Malcom.
I watch Wallanders and Upstart Crows. "This too shall pass."
your people are being foolish. The American experiment is over. If you do not run, you will die. He has promised this.
In gratitude for your precise words that truly saved my "psychological well-being" (and emotional too). Although the rally cry cannot heal my grieving heart it has strengthened me to "feel all those feeling...and get with the program". God Bless you Malcolm Nance, thank you.
I appreciate your words!
I truly believed that this was a win for Harris. When Ted Cruz won I knew we would lose
Bravo! A great message for a rough day. Great oration for unity in adversity. Time to stand tall, know what we value, and move on!
Needed this Malcom. It’s a plan, a good plan. I can do and follow this plan. It’s straight forward.
Bless You, Malcolm
I'm sick. I guess I'm realizing that I've outlived my usefulness. I fear this ends in a domestic bloodbath. Well, it's on me to die with my boots on.
How old is your dog? I will take care of him if you need to leave. I have two old dogs too.
We live out in the country and have lots of land for the doggies to run around on.
No need to run. Stay and fight and feed your pooch!
i'm currently on steroids for a facial allergy that I got after I quit smoking weed and decided I deserved a treat (I ask people to listen to the New York Times daily podcast about cannabis used disorder) so I got my eyebrows waxed.
Best
