I remember the Hezbollah suicide attacker who drove a truck laden with explosives into the Marine barracks in 1983. We lost hundreds of US Marines that day. They also killed Americans by bombing the US embassy. Striking Hezbollah is justice delayed but justice served. Thank Israel.

Operation Deez Nuts!(๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚) Counter terrorism, I believe, is terrorizing the terrorists. Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard are presently shitting large bricks. I expect they'll be exploring smoke signals, semaphore flags, and pigeons as a new communications strategy. (Exploding pigeons?๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‚) Mossad is the Intel GOAT! Thanks again, Chief.

Fascinating operation, Malcolm. I imagine TV remotes throughout Lebanon are being looked at suspiciously now. Booting up a personal computer, laptop, or tablet is probably causing anxiety, too. I recently read Barak Ehud's autobiography, My Country, My Life: Fighting for Israel, Searching for Peace. I always thought of him as (more of) an advocate for peace and a Two State Solution, and his book confirmed my assumptions. What I had missed was his extensive military experience (concurrent with Bibi's emergence) and how Israel has been playing the long game with respect to adversaries (confirmed, assumed, and potential) for decades. In the early 80's I paired with an Israeli on a computing project. To celebrate, we went out for beers and talked politics and history. At one point, she used her napkin to draw a to-scale map of Israel, including mountains, rivers, bordering nations, and major cities. I doubted then (and now) that most Americans could do the same for our country.

Malcolm, your congratulatory comments and admiration for the clever Deeze Nuts operation is spot on. We must remember that education is a major factor in the development and implementation of operations like this. I was in Israel in 1990 when the Russian Jews were arriving. The intense support the Israelis showed these new immigrants was very impressive. My tour guide told me to watch the amazing advancements the country would achieve through these brilliant immigrants. Sadly, many in our country do not value education and immigration. As we celebrate Israel's cleverness we need to remember to support our educational system and our new immigrants.

American anti-intellectualism goes back to the founding; Tom Jefferson was mocked as effete because he knew calculus and would rather read than race horses. It continues unabated.

I knew when it came to this event, waiting for you, Chief, would be the right call. Because the intellectual laziness of some especially when dealing with the asymmetric warfare of fighting against a prominent terrorist organization, whoโ€™s presence has been crippling Lebanon for years, is sadly lost on some. For reasons ๐Ÿ˜’.

As I just noticed that there was an opinion piece criticizing the operation, though it was one of the most surgical strikes against a terrorist organization in years. Something that I think more people would want especially when it keeps the risks against civilians significantly lower than alternatives.

How do you see this war going, Mr. Nance? I am concerned that it will make the war in Gaza look like a garden party, and we see how the world is siding with Hamas in that conflict.

Yes, not to mention how this will affect Nov 5th here

Now they HAVE to rescue the rest of the hostages in Gaza! They seem to be forgotten.

Thanks for the promised commentary! Your point that counter terrorism is fair and legal should be echoed by all of us by posting comments to all the MSM sob-sister, handwringing editorializing that is not confined to to opinion pages. 2 Questions What is the "law" we should be citing in responding? Geneva Convention? Help!

Related question: Is Hezbollah seriously and additionally weakened by the death of Ibrahim Aquil? I'm sure you personally are particularly overjoyed. Too Iong a time coming, tho.

This is a brilliant Israeli offensive coup ! But where was the same brilliance during an easier target on Oct 7 ? Offensive brilliance is helpful but defensive faulty intelligence is a disaster !

As an American Jewish woman who grew up with a very pro-Israeli mom in the 60s, I am heartbroken that I have to weigh my long-time loyalty against the fact that a very good Muslim friend of mine has immediate family in Lebanon around Beirut and she is terrified. So part of me enjoys your enthusiasm, Malcolm, but then...

Also, the timing of this around our own election and Bibi's desire for Trump to win, feels ominous. I respect your experience and intelligence; please convince me that I'm wrong to feel this is not going to play out well for the world.

Thank you Malcolm! I miss seeing you on MSNBC. They desperately need your expertise and great takes. They were handwringing on one of the shows about the fear of a conflict escalation because Hezbollah vowed to exact revenge. Meanwhile no expert like you weighed in at how they've now been incapacitated with the loss of their tech, and Lebanon health workers now up to their eyeballs with injured terrorists. It's really a crime that you're not more visible in these times. Miss you so much.
