Just a question from a French: Trump is suffering from dementia or similar disorder due to age or deprivation of oxygen when he has covid in 2020. Can he be impeached on the grounds that he’s not fit for office? I noticed he was extremely different in May 2024 from the person he used to be. It’s getting worse and worse. Thanks.

Yes, it's the 25th Amendment in our Constitution.

Ok, I think it has to be done. He’s damaging the US and the entire world.

Could not agree more, but Trump would have to sign something — fat chance.

Trump doesn't have to sign for the 25th Amendment, does he?

I googled it, and that's the information there. They used the example of when President Reagan was shot, and he refused to sign the document upon presentation in the hospital.

That makes little sense. Why would anyone sign to be impeached? Especially someone like Trump! Geesh!

Unfortunately his cabinet aren't interested in or capable of inciting the 25th Amendment. They haven't cleaned out the coffers yet.

I know. I’m very emotional today to the point I made a typo in my comment. My family called me crazy when I said at the end of 2023 that Musk was an agent of chaos. Trump wouldn’t have been elected without him.

Spot-on Nathalie! We have Musk to thank for much of it! In hindsight, we should have acted quickly like South Korea did. Strike while the iron is hot! We have a feckless Congress all around. WTH were we thinking?

Nobody in the US is to blame: I was wondering why he bought Twitter like a lot of people. It became clear when he created the alias Adrian Dittmann is 2023. A lot of people thought it wasn’t Musk: it is except to play video games and for jokes like cooking steaks. He’s so different because it’s the actual Musk: zero emotion, stammering far less, racist to the point of considering Latinos as non white. I thought the alias was well known in 2024 until Pekka Kallioniemi posted that he had no clue Musk was under this alias. Pekka was blocked immediately. The spaces stopped when Musk worked for Trump. They have resumed. I haven’t listened for 6 months except once. Judge McCormick has to be praised because she was right that a single person shouldn’t have that much money. It’s extremely dangerous and unseen.

Seriously, Malcolm. The landscape of the world is looking extremely bleak. Are you holding out for any positive outcome, especially on the world stage? You are the only one I trust on our security and world affairs. Trump and his entire administration are a bunch of lunatics, right?

Yes. We still have to do the people power movement. All we need is 5 Republicans to defect, and Hakeem Jefferies becomes Speaker, and we can set up the walls to stop him. If he does something crazy, an impeachment is possible.

Impeachment is only a trial. There must be 67 senators who vote for his conviction/removal. Maybe we can get that many votes after the midterms next year, if the US still exists as a democracy.

Trump has been impeached twice but must be convicted by a vote in the Senate which so far has not happened.

The impeachment process

-The House of Representatives brings articles (charges) of impeachment against an official. ...

-If the House adopts the articles by a simple majority vote, the official has been impeached.

-The Senate holds an impeachment trial. ...

-If found guilty, the official is removed from office.

You also have to realize that VP J.D. Vance would then become President which is not necessarily an improvement.

I was listening to another analyst and I was shocked that even experts don't know what the end-game for intervention in Iran might be. Iran is a huge nation with a long history. We seem to lose the significance of Iran being a theocracy while fixating on possible nuclear capabilities. This is an Islamic Holy War, not simply a geopolitical power play.

The Persian Empire was defeated by Islamic Arabs in 632 and forcibly converted from centuries of Zoroastrianism to Islam. There has been animosity between the Sunni Arabs and Shi'ite Iranians ever since. Iran has no borders with Isreal and has no historical conflicts with Jews. The end goal for Iran is with Sunni Arabs to recover Jerusalem, Mecca, and Medina and return Islam to its former "purity".

When the Isreal returned to the Holy Land, they unfortunately got in the way of Iran's holy Islamist mission. Of course, at the core of any holy war is an apolcalyptic purging of the "true believers" from the "blasphemers". This is not simply about Jews and Iranians, but a grand Islamist Holy War against anyone opposing "pure" Islam. Sunni Arabs cannot simply stand by and let the U.S. and Israel do their dirty work. This is a pivotal point in the reformation of Islam to allow it to coexist in the modern world.

As the African proverb predicts: "An unloved child will burn down the village to feel its warmth."

Vance?

You know, Malcolm, I can remember when the USA was the most powerful and wealthiest nation in the world. That was as recently as January 19, 2025. Since the end of April, 2025, China has been the most powerful and nation in the world. Why did this happen in my lifetime (I'm 75)? "Liberation Day" and your column today is the reason why. It was nice while it lasted. Fortunately, I do live in California.

I suppose our only saving grace will be he needs confirmation from Congress to attack Iran and I doubt he has enough "true believers" left there to rubber stamp such an attack. The whole thing reeks of the 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' claim for the ill-conceived Iraq War leading to decades of Middle East turmoil up to the present. I doubt there is any will to repeat that mistake.

As for shutting down the oil shipments, Iran desperately needs the revenue and attacking Sunni Arab neighbors could trigger a closer alignment of them with Israel and truly doom Iran. I hate agreeing with Trump, but the best action might be "to let them fight it out" provoking the Arab States into action.

Someone is going to have to clean up the mess afterward the regime change and neither Israel nor the U.S. is up to the task. I see a really great opportunity for China to up its game in the region and secure its fuel supplies. As for the U.S., we have our own domestic regime change to attend to. "Not my circus, not my clowns."

Thanks for the technical details, Malcolm. Didn't Our Mad King (wannabe) Donald the 1st already order a bunker buster bomb dropped in Afghanistan during his first disastrous reign? He has the mind of a 2yo, and the money men/women who have installed him will live to regret their action, even as he has granted them free access to the US Treasury and set a new standard for grifting the American people. Only a divine intervention can save us from a global disaster now, but the stage is set for an existential conclusion to this ever so sad episode in our 250 yr. history.

Not sure of the "massive KC-135 deployment" being more than a publicity stunt. We've had Kc-135's at Diego Garcia, along with some B-2s for quite a while. Trump's public raving may just be settlement leverage. Besides, I'd bet whatever enriched uranium they have/had has been trucked to an unidentified location....unless satellites tracked them. After unified, nationwide protests over the past weekend, maybe it's time for Republican leadership to summon the strength and bravery to bring this mockery to an end. The ride is over. True power is not held but is freely dispensed among the many in order to attain a level of decency and compassion.
